Sending invoices to Tally Prime

Download your invoices, credit notes and payments as a file and import them into Tally.

MSMEPulse creates a file Tally Prime can import, with:

  • a Sales voucher for each invoice, with CGST and SGST, or IGST, on their own ledgers,
  • a Credit Note voucher for each credit note, against its invoice,
  • a Receipt voucher for each payment, with any TDS on its own ledger,
  • a ledger under Sundry Debtors for each client, with their GSTIN and state.

Before the first export: check the ledger names

Go to Settings โ†’ Accounting โ†’ Tally Prime โ†’ Ledger names in your Tally. Type each ledger's name exactly as it is in your Tally company, such as "Output IGST" or "HDFC Bank". These ledgers must already exist in Tally. Client ledgers are created for you if they're missing.

Export

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Accounting.
  2. Choose the dates. Keep Only things not exported before ticked, so nothing goes into Tally twice.
  3. Click Download for Tally.

Import into Tally Prime

  1. Open your company in Tally Prime.
  2. Go to Gateway of Tally โ†’ Import โ†’ Transactions (in older versions: Import Data โ†’ Vouchers).
  3. Choose the file you downloaded and press Enter.
  4. Tally shows how many vouchers were created. Check the Day Book for the dates you exported.

If Tally says a ledger doesn't exist, fix the name in Ledger names in your Tally, untick Only things not exported before, and export the same dates again.

Good to know

  • Invoices in another currency are converted to rupees at the exchange rate on the invoice. Invoices without an exchange rate are left out and listed when you export.
  • Invoices you imported as opening balances aren't included: they're already in Tally.
  • Amounts in every voucher always balance. If one wouldn't, it's refused and you'll see a message.
