The firm
The firm keeps the books for about 80 small companies, prepares their financial statements and tax returns, files their annual returns with ACRA, and acts as company secretary.
What made the work hard
- Clients with different financial year-ends meant deadlines all year round.
- Registers and resolutions lived in folders, separate from the work on each company.
- Monthly bookkeeping fees were fixed, but the effort varied widely between clients.
How they set up MSMEPulse
- Chose Accounting & Corporate Secretarial at signup, with its templates for annual filing and AGM, corporate income tax, GST F5, bookkeeping and incorporation.
- Started an annual filing project for each company, timed from its year-end.
- Set up monthly bookkeeping as a retainer per client.
- Used the client portal for bank statements and signed resolutions.
The templates for Accounting & Corporate Secretarial in MSMEPulse: Annual filing (ACRA) and AGM, Corporate income tax return, Internal audit (quarterly), Monthly bookkeeping, GST F5 return (quarterly), Company incorporation (ACRA), Monthly payroll and CPF (Singapore), Employment Pass application.
A typical month
Each month, the bookkeeping projects open with a checklist for bank statements and receipts. Companies approaching their year-end get their annual filing project started early, so information requests go out in good time. Quarterly GST F5 returns are tracked against their due dates. Invoices go out in SGD with the right GST treatment, and clients pay by PayNow.
What changes
- Year-end work is planned from each company's deadlines, not discovered late.
- Documents and approvals sit with the company's project, not in email.
- Time against each fixed fee shows which clients need their fees reviewed.
